Luca is World Record holder endurance runner and keynote speaker with a passion for unusual running adventures and training the mind to achieve often seemingly impossible feats.
Born in Italy, Luca is a proud Aussie based in Sydney and the founder of OUTRUNCANCER

"I believe in putting yourself out there. Totally out there.
Only then you may live up to the vision of yourself.
We are all first timers giving our best shot, be humble
but give no space for doubts about your intentions."

Who is this Luca guy?

I hope you didn’t have high expectations when you got to this page. To tell you the truth Luca is – I am – a very regular guy.
I started 'going long' only a few years ago - in 2011 precisely, when I lost my mother to pancreatic cancer. Initially it was simply a way to quieten my mind and try to make sense of what happened.
Soon it began a way of life. In 2012 I started OUTRUN CANCER to use my running as a way to raise awareness and funds for cancer prevention programs.
I am very proud that thousands of people across Australia have taken part to our annual Corporate Treadmill Marathon events, helping us raise over $900k in donations to date.

I'm a bullet point list kinda of guy, so if you want to know more about my running, here some fun facts:
  • I started running in 2009 when I moved to Sydney. Before that I was a heavy smoker, beer drinker very good pool player (that's what I think, anyway)
  • I LOVE trails
  • my favourite distance is marathon and over
  • I don’t mind running in circles/stationary too – great mental challenge
  • my best run so far was the Grand Canyon R2R2R
  • my running heroes and inspiration are Pat Farmer and Killian Jornet
  • I run most morning before work (at stupid o’clock)
  • I turned “pescatarian” in 2012 and never looked back. Not a fan of veggies growing up, now it’s all I eat!
  • I am Italian: home made pizza is on every Sunday but I don’t eat pasta every other day 🙂

Also:
  • I am a proud Aussie citizen since 2013
  • I am a father since 2014 and I stopped growing old – my firstborn has stolen my birthday
  • In 2017 I broke the world record for 24 hours running on a treadmill: 261.18 km.

I am a proud ambassador of the brands below which have believed and supported me overtime and with which I intersect on values and purpose.

Injinji Performance Products has been my go to online shops for many years, as it simply offers the highest quality products I use regularly, with fast shipping and excellent customer service.
I am a big fan of the Injinji toe socks which I've been wearing for my running since 2012 (come to think of it, I wear it for pretty much any occasion!) because they are comfortable, durable and I never develop blisters in them. Whatever the distance.
The Injinji toe socks, together with the Ultimate Direction hydration products are also my most gifted and appreciated presents to friends and family for Christmas!

Technogym logo
Technogym is the world’s leading supplier of technology and design driven products and services in the wellness and fitness industry.

I don’t know why treadmill running has such a bad reputation. For me, it complements the road and trail running. It is a controlled environment where I can focus on specific aspects of my physical training and mental preparation. As an early-adopter and athletic advisor in Australia, I am very proud to give feedback about new equipment and advise other athletes about how they can also get the benefits and enjoy the process.

Knightswood house
Knightswood House is a financial advisory firm working with endurance athletes and adventurers, helping them plan their future.

Life is about doing the things we love and are passionate about. David's financial guidance and planning helps me to see things through with a piece of mind.

Pure Running is all about running with a conscience, also on a mission to give back to charitable causes like OUTRUNCANCER

Personally, I love their no BS attitude, their products, the personal touch in every order and the free samples Mike and team often add to get me out of my comfort zone and try something new.
